Away vs Marton FC 'A' - 11 September (Reporter Nick Redfern)
First game of the season kicks off under overcast skies. Thirsk line up with Jacob in goal, Harry and Riley at the back, in midfield are Connor, Ben and Phoebe with James upfront.
It's an even start and Falcs give no ground in the early stages in fact Marton look a little surprised by the early pace and pressure from Thirsk.
Falcons make their good start count as Phoebe reacts quickly to turn in Bens long range shot with the keeper left flat footed.
Falcs are on top early but Marton starting to apply pressure and equalise after period of possession and Thirsk now struggling to keep the ball.
A mistake sees a Riley back pass collected to give Marton an indirect free kick brilliantly charged down by Ben but Marton soon back on the attack and equalise.
Thirsk kick off and Ben tries his luck from half way but the keeper comfortably catches.
James does well in midfield to feed Ben into a one on one but the keeper saves bravely and Marton are back on the attack.
Falcons weather another storm with great defending from Harry and Riley giving the Falcs another attacking chance.
But Thirsk caught defending too deeply and a Marton shot squeezes past Jacob for 2-1.
Jacob does well to thwart another attack and the half time whistles blows.
As in the first half Marton quickly push Thirsk back and Jacob makes a fantastic save to turn over a fine strike.
But it only delays the inevitable as Falcs found wanting at the back as the striker sweeps home.
Toby replaces Connor and Harry moves into midfield.
Thirsk are still trying to get back into the game but James is hurt trying to break through, should have been a free-kick.
Goal kick to Thirsk is sent straight back and out for a corner to Marton and Thirsk fail to clear as ball breaks off the post and the attacker is first to react and poke home. 4-1.
Thirsk caught again immediately and Jacobs fingertips over!
Marton finding the gaps now but Thirsk bravely hanging on.
Thirsk trying hard to find a way through but Marton are well marshalled and defend easily.
Then Marton score again and aggressive play gets them a sixth although shirt pulling and pushing should have been punished.
The final whistle goes and Thirsk suffer an opening day setback.
