WELCOME BACK TO FALCONS FLEDGLINGS FOR 2012!

Fledglings back Saturdays until Easter!

Thirsk School Sports Hall Confirmed Until Christmas
As the weather gets colder and more wintery, the Fledglings sessions will now move into the warm and dry Sports Hall at Thirsk School until further notice.

The sessions will now be at the earlier time of 9:30-10:30 every Saturday morning but will still offer the same mix of fun games and football skills teaching, with some friendly matches to be played at the end of each session.

Please ensure that the kids come with clean trainers or astroturf boots - no studs or blades please!

Due to the extra cost of hiring the Sports Hall facility, the cost of our sessions will increase to £20 for a 10-week block of sessions - that's still only £2 per child per session! For this weekend only we are also taking a final session payment of £2 per child, so parents have a choice whether to pay for the next block of ten sessions this weekend or next.

The Sports Hall is located at Thirsk School on Topcliffe Road (the secondary school just before you leave Thirsk on the B1448). There is ample parking in the main car park at the front of the school, and access through the main doors to the Sports Hall, which is located at the 'back' of the school (follow the Falcons Juniors logo signs if you don't know the way!)

Fledglings Coaches & Assistants - Can You Help?
Currently we have run Fledglings sessions with Mally and Ed as permanent coaches, helped by other Falcons Juniors coaches once they have finished their sessions. However, with the new location and time we are now desperately in need of extra bodies to ensure that the sessions work for all the kids, whatever age they are. Although we are operating well within the prescribed ratios, ideally we would like to have one coach/assistant for every 8 kids as a maximum.

If there are any parents who would be prepared to help run the sessions (don't worry, you won't be left to fend for yourself - you'll always be with one of the permanent coaches!) then we all win - the kids will get more individual attention and we have more bodies to help set out drills and games etc. In particular we may need assistance at the start of each session as Mally may be ten minutes late on occasion! Your assistance would be very much appreciated and ensure that we can keep running our sessions with the incredible numbers we have enjoyed up to now.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PEOPLES POSTCODE LOTTERY REGARDING THE GRANT FOR THIRSK FALCONS FLEDGLINGS.

FALCON FLEDGLINGS TAKE FLIGHT

Thanks to funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery

Young footballers in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, will be starting their first season kitted out in a brand new sports kit, thanks to funding donated by the People’s Postcode Trust.

A grant-giving arm of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Trust donated over £1,200 to Thirsk Falcons Junior Football Club to kick start their Fledglings scheme.

The Falcons Fledglings programme is aimed at getting boys and girls, aged between three and six, involved in football, learning the basic skills in a fun and friendly environment. It is also focused on encouraging healthy eating and outdoor play as an integral part of the young children’s daily routine.

“We were ecstatic to hear that we had been awarded the funding,” said Vaughan Lonsdale (Club Chairman) “Not only have we been able to purchase a brand new strip, but we’ve bought gazebos, kit and training equipment for them as well!”

Fledglings sessions are taking place every Saturday morning through the summer between 10:30 and 11:30 at our Newsham Road home. The cost is just £1 per week. If your little ones would like to get involved, more information can be found on the website at www.thirskfalcons.org.uk/.
